Has The Carroll School caught bed bugs? According to a notice sent home with children on Tuesday night, yes.
"My kids go to and there was a flyer in the kids' folder yesterday stating that it's confirmed that there are bed bugs in the school," a concerned parent wrote to Patch on Wednesday morning.
The document, which the parent shared with Carroll Gardens Patch on the condition of anonymity, appears on PS 58 stationery from Principal Giselle McGee dated May 14.
"We recently found a confirmed bed bug in your child's school," the letter reads, followed by a description of the symptoms and aftermath of a bed bug bite.
"Finding a bed bug does not mean that our school is infested," the notice goes on to say. "Bed bugs are often unknowingly brought into schools by building occupants and as a result we may have future sightings."
Calls to the Smith St. school did not immediately yield a comment from the Principal Giselle McGee.
But one anonymous person Patch reached at the main switchboard did acknowledge that a single bug had been identified on a child and that a technician will be coming in for the second time later this week, the source stated.
