will close its Mount Kisco location for good on Sunday afternoon at 4 p.m., the store announced in notices posted.

The closure will mark the end of the store's roughly 14-year presence in the village, and the loss of a major retail destination in northern Westchester.

The company after efforts to emerge from a February Chapter 11 bankrupcty failed. Inventory of various sorts, including regular items and even fixtures, have been sold off. As of Friday, most shelves were bare, with only clusters of books left. Many of the shelves have been taken away, subject to asset sales for the fallen book chain. Discounts, which started at about 40 percent off in July, are now 80-90 percent off for the remaining items.

The loss of Borders will leave a major vacancy in a storefront that is about 22,000 square feet along Main Street.

For those looking for other ways to buy books, here are some options that will still be around:

  • in Pleasantville
  • in Katonah (opening in October, for kids books)
  • in New Canaan, CT
  • in Ridgefield, CT
  • Nearby Barnes & Noble locations, including White Plains, Mohegan Lake, Greenburgh and Stamford, CT
  • Shopping online. Amazon.com is the most notable example
