Community Day Promises Array of Local Groups

Chappaqua Rotary's annual gathering is today.

The biggest gathering of local groups in New Castle is taking place this afternoon with the Rotary Club of Chappaqua's annual Community Day.

The event includes dozens of groups, from merchants (disclosure: including Patch) to schools to government.

There are several highlights that have been announced. They include a mobile blood drive, a DJ, free kids' and teens' books from the Chappaqua Library, an "ask the vet" service from Millwood Animal Hospital and a play area from WeeZee.

"I love Community Day," said Chappaqua Library Director Pam Thornton, who has been involved with it. She described it as a chance for people to see groups and learn about what they have to do. She said it's great because "we're all in one place at one time."

Thornton also noted that Alex Martinez, a Horace Greeley High School junior who is a Life Scout for Chappaqua Troop 1, plans to collect items. He will give them to Blythedale Children's Hospital as part of his Leadership Service Project.

Community Day runs today from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. in front of the Chappaqua train station. A map of participating groups is attached.
