Thanksgiving Wine: The One Bottle You'll Want

Chappaqua's Hilltop Wines & Liquors gives their choice for a great wine this holiday.

Thanksgiving Wine: The One Bottle You'll Want

Between cooking the turkey, making the sweet potatoes and baking the pumpkin pie, finding the right wine can feel like an undertaking all its own. To help narrow down the selection, we asked a local wine shop for their one suggestion.

Peter Costello, who has owned in Chappaqua for 23 years, recommends Mill Creek Family Vineyards 2006 Zinfandel from Dry Creek Valley in Sonoma, CA.

Costello describes the bottle—which is currently on sale for $28.99 (regularly $32.99)—as “rich, full bodied” with "a touch of white pepper in the long finish.”

Why is it great for next week’s holiday? “The Zinfandel matches with the traditional Thanksgiving feast,” Costello explains. It especially holds up next to the side dishes like sweet potatoes, cranberry sauce and others, he says.

And tell us: Is wine a big component of your Thanksgiving feast? Does your family drink the same type every year or are you looking for something different?
