Commack Boy Scouts Collect 1,185 Pounds of Food

Commack Troop 125 participated in Scouting For Food on March 10, bringing their yearly total to 2,466 pounds of food in 2012.

Commack Boy Scouts has found success Scouting for Food, collecting 1,185 pound to contribute to more than a ton of donations so far this year. 

Commack Troop 125 took to local shopping centers and street on March 10 to participate in the annual national food drive, Scouting for Food. The troop members managed to collect an impressive 1,185 pounds of donations. 

Boy Scouts collected donations at two area supermarkets, Commack's on Veterans Highway and on Crooked Hills Road. They asked customers going about their food shopping to donate an assortment of foods including soup, tuna, assorted canned vegetables, canned fruits, pasta, rice, olive oil, sauces and cereal. 

Donates of peanut butter and jelly will be given to the 's Peanut Butter and Jelly Gang, who makes sandwiches on the first Saturday of every month to help feed the hungry in the community. 

The collection effort brought the Boy Scout's total to 2,466 pound of food collected thus far in 2012. 

Boy Scout Troop 125 meets every Tuesday from 7:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Commack United Methodist Church. The group is open to boys ages 11 to 18 who live in Commack, Dix Hills, East Northport, Kings Park, Smithtown and other surrounding communities.
