Commack Student Competes on MSG Varsity Talent Show

A Commack High School student is one of four vocalist competing to move on to the next round of MSG Varsity's Talen Show. 

Matthew Mayer was featured on MSG Varsity's Talent Show  Season 2 on Sunday. Mayer, a singer and guitar player, performed as a individual vocalist against three other competitors, and needs community support to advance to the next round. 

Mayer, a singer with a love for country, stands out to many for performing with pink instruments, most commonly seen with a pink guitar or ukulele. The Commack student explains that he began performing with pink instruments after his mother was diagnosed with breast cancer to raise awareness of the disease. 

MSG Varsity's talent Show is hosted by "American Idol" semifinalist Jared Cotter, and will feature performances in three categories - individual vocalist, vocal ensemble and dance ensemble. Viewers are asked to go online and cast their vote for their favorite talent. Performer receiving the most online votes each will will advance to the next round. 

"I'm really impressed with the caliber of the performances delivered by these high schoolers," Jared Cotter said in a statement. "It's great to be par tof MSG Varsity's Talent Show because it gives these kids a great platform to showcase their talents. I only wish they had this when I was in high school. 

As an indivdual vocalist, Mayer is competing for a chance to win a two-day professional studio experience including the opportunity to work with an award-winning produce to cut a demo CD or video, and create custom-designed cover art. The prize package also including a professional photo shoot.

The winner in each category will be announced on June 3 at 8 p.m. on MSG Varsity.
