The Commack community collected 500 pounds of food for local families in need during a Super Bowl food drive, hosted by Legis. Steve Stern and Island Harvest, at the ShopRite of Commack.
“ShopRite has always been a proud supporter of the communities we serve," said Jon Greenfield, who along with his son, Seth Greenfield, own and operate the ShopRite of Commack. "Island Harvest has done a wonderful job feeding those in need right here in our neighborhood, and we want to thank them, Legislator Stern and most importantly, our ShopRite customers for their kindness in helping us give back."
The drive was held Feb. 2, a day before the big game. Volunteers collected non-perishable items for three hours, asking customers to add a can of food to their grocery lists for donation.
“During these challenging times, it is important to join together to help those in need in our community,” Stern said in a statement. “I thank Island Harvest, ShopRite, the many members of the community who donated food and funds and these fine young people, who have given of their time to help their neighbors. Their generosity is greatly appreciated.”
