— You'll be glad to know that Wednesday is supposed to bring lots of sunshine with a high of 79F.
— I'm not sure if that's good or bad weather for the first day of school, which is where Montauk students are headed this morning. I hope all the kids have a great first day of school. We'd love to see your kids' back to school photos (we know you're taking them!). Send them to Taylor.Vecsey@patch.com for a gallery. And, for those of you with kids heading back to school on Monday, remember to send us a pic then.
— Speaking of back to school. The Springs School Board of Education held a meeting on Tuesday night at 6 p.m. to officially hire Jay Finello as the interim district superintendent. Finello takes over for Dominic Mucci, a retiree whom the district hired in 2012. His waiver from the state was not renewed for another year, the district announced on Tuesday.
— Rosh Hashanah begins on Wednesday night at sundown. Please check out our services schedule. L'Shana Tova!
— Our hats off to the firefighters from East Hampton, Sag Harbor, and Amagansett who spent many hours on Tuesday helping to fight a fire in Water Mill. We'll be following up on that fire — believed to have started with a lightning strike during the thunderstorm — later on Wednesday.
