East Hampton Town businesses write in to tell us how they are doing after Hurricane Sandy.

What's Open

Hurricane Sandy didn't keep these businesses down for long. If you don't want to drive around and waste gas, keeping checking this list about stores and businesses that are open around town. We're adding to them as we get emails.

Restaurants/Hotels

  • c/o The Maidstone and The Living Room general manager, Sophie B Hindmarsh, wrote, "We are very fortunate when you think of how hard this is on so many people. We offer free WiFi and of course water for people in need. Of course the restaurant is open also as well as the rooms."
  • 1770 House and Cittanuova executive chef Kevin Penner told us the chefs and crews are working very hard since reopening on Thursday.
  • Rowdy Hall in East Hampton, Townline BBQ in Sagaponack, and La Fondita in Amagansett, are not only open, they are offering a 25-percent discount for LIPA and utility workers from Friday through Thursday.
  • Oceanside Beach Resort wrote in: "We are open year round, everything is working. Cable tv, heating - we were lucky and Sandy didn't affect us."
  • Gurney's Inn Resort & Spa, Montauk
  • The Montauk Yacht Club and the Gulf Coast Kitchen are both open and taking guests. "We've got power and welcome people who need charging, Almost everything is working, looking forward to seeing everyone soon," the hotel staff wrote.

    Stores

    • Wainscott Hardware
    • Steph's Stuff, East Hampton
    • Riverhead Building Supply is open for business. Gael Harden said, "We are anxious to hear from all of our customers and know that you are ok.  As long as we can safely get a truck out to a delivery address, we are delivering building materials and supplies all over Long Island. We have waived all delivery charges and minimum order amounts during November, while neighborhoods repair, replace and rebuild.  All types of material are available for immediate delivery, including plywood, roofing, siding, tarps, etc." They are open: Monday - Friday: 7:00 am - 6:00 pm, Saturday: 7:00 am - 3:00 pm, and also in East Hampton on Sunday, Nov. 4 from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. 

    Also the Montauk location is open: M – F – 7:00 AM – 4:30 PM, Sat – 7:00 AM – 3:00 PM and Sunday, Nov. 4 from 8:00 AM – 1:00 PM

    • Domaine Franey Wines and Spirits, East Hampton; Jacques Franey said, "We have been open everyday from 10-8.  Sunday 12-6."
    • White's Pharmacy in East Hampton Village 
    • BookHampton, all locations, including East Hampton. The Sag Harbor and Southampton stores are "charging locations" if you need it. 
    • Sara Bertha from Red Horse Market in East Hampton said,  "We are open and going strong.  It's been a real eye-opener for us, how much we've become a part of people's lives. We stayed open for the storm and the day after, luckily with power. We've only been open since May but it's nice to feel like we've really become a part of the community."
    • Naturopathica Spa in East Hampton is open and running a promotion for the month of November due to the storm, starting Nov. 5 and running through Nov. 29: Bring along a non-perishable food item when you visit the spa, Monday through Thursday, and receive 20 percent off any treatment. 
    • One Stop Market, East Hampton
    • Kailani is open and accepting donations for its clothing drive for Sandy victims elsewhere on the island. 
    • Springs General Store
    • Park Place Wines & Liquor, East Hampton; those who need to charge up are welcome to stop by.
    • Amagansett Wines & Spirits

    Fitness Studios/Gyms

    • B. East, Amagansett. Owner Romaine Gordon says, "We have electric. No phone or internet so no credit cards but we are giving classes every morning!"
    • Lululemon Athletica in East Hampton Village is also collecting items such as clothes, coats, toiletries, and even diapers.
