East Hampton High School principal Adam Fine did the honors on Thursday morning — announcing the names of Class of 2013's valedictorian and salutatorian

Drum roll, please . . .

Ian Lynch grabbed the top spot, and Michael Burns was named the salutatorian.

“I am honored to announce this year’s valedictorian and salutatorian. Both boys are well-rounded young men who represent our school community with pride and class," Fine told Patch.

Lynch, who lives in Springs, has a 102.95 GPA. He is a son of Carol and Brian Lynch. An avid golfer that has participated on the high school's varsity golf team since seventh grade, he will play Division 1 golf at Colgate University this coming year. "I am not sure what I am going to study in college yet, but I'm leaning towards majoring in economics," he wrote to Patch.

At the high school, he is on the Academic Team, the Century Club, the National Honor Society, and was on the now defunct Athletes Helping Athletes. For community service, he assists with youth sports and adult golf clinics.

Burns, a Montauk native, is the son of Lydia Shaternik and Michael Burns Sr. He has not decided on a college yet, he said he plans on studying engineering.

A member of the interscholastic varsity sailing team, he also keeps busy with community service, working with the Guide Dog Foundation for the Blind, the Montauk Community Church, among several others through out high school.

Please congratulate these two young men on their academic accomplishments. We look forward to learning more about them soon.
