Amagansett Director's Doc 'Hard Times' Debuts Monday on HBO

," which premiered at the 2011 and was directed by Amagansett resident Marc Levin, will get its television debut Monday on HBO.

The film is the third in a series of HBO documentaries Levin and producer Daphne Pinkerson, both Emmy-award winners, made on the human impact of the downturn in the economy.

"Hard Times" documents the struggles of four families on Long Island, including a young couple in Montauk, Heather Hartstein and her late husband, chiropractor .

The Hartsteins "were living a fairy-tale life in Montauk," where they settled after meeting in college and getting married. Some financial hardships led them to apply for a loan modification, for which they were rejected — on the same day their son tested positive for Down syndrome. They filed for bankruptcy.

"Starting in summer 2010, when many hoped an era of recovery would begin, and continuing through the holiday season six months later, 'Hard Times: Lost on Long Island' spotlights the challenges facing highly skilled, well-educated Long Islanders who lost their jobs," a statement from the creators said.

The film debuts Monday at 9 p.m.
