Highway Repairs Delayed Until Spring

A pavement resurfacing project on Montauk Highway in East Hampton, originally scheduled for early fall, has ben postponed.

New York State Assemblyman Fred W. Thiele, Jr., I-Sag Harbor, announced on Thursday that the project won't begin now until the spring of 2013 due to post Hurricane Sandy repair work.

The project was actually scheduled to begin the week Sandy hit Long Island.

Thiele said that the project will take place from the intersection of Stephen Hands Path east to its intersection with State Route 114. The road along that stretch of Route 27 will be milled, repaired where necessary, and receive an entire new layer of pavement, Thiele said in a statement. New pavement markings will also be installed.

He had hoped to see the repairs already made. "However, the landfall of Hurricane Sandy and the continuation of repairs to New York State roadways has pushed back the start date of the East Hampton project to the Spring of 2013," he said in a statement.
