LIPA Plans To Improve Electric Service in East Hampton Area

Informational meeting on the project will be held on Thursday evening.

LIPA Plans To Improve Electric Service in East Hampton Area

The public is invited to a "open house" on Thursday for information on a project to improve the reliability of electric service in and around East Hampton.

The Long Island Power Authority plans to install a new transmission line from the East Hampton substation to the Amagansett substation in order to improve "the growing load from East Hampton going east," according to a notice on Wednesday.

The open house will include several presentations from National Grid, describing the different phases of the project, according to Mark Gross, a spokesman with LIPA.

"To minimize disruption to the community, LIPA will be upgrading and replacing each of the existing poles in order to accommodate the existing distribution line as well as a new transmission line. The new infrastructure will be storm hardened, graded to withstand 130 mph hurricane force winds, and increase the electric reliability to your community," the notice reads.

The work is not slated to begin until sometime next year, Gross said.

The presentations will be held at the Emergency Communications Building on Cedar Street in East Hampton Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m.
