Quiet Skies Coalition will take to the streets on the upcoming busy holiday weekend in East Hampton Village.
The group, which usually protests at the East Hampton Airport, planned a march around the village while the Hamptons International Film Festival is underway,
just as the group did last year. The march will take place on Oct. 12 from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
Those marching will meet in the small park near Bonne Nuit, on the west side of Main Street.
"The Hamptons International Film Festival will be in town, which will help to give our issue more exposure and hopefully give us some press," Kathleen Cunningham, the executive director, wrote to supporters. "However, we have a bonus opportunity, weather permitting, which is that a documentary filmmaker who has taken an interest in our cause, plans to record our demonstration for a film he's making on the importance of quiet."
"We've never been closer to meaningful noise mitigation," she said, noting that large numbers of participants are important.
In 2012, about 20 supporters showed up during the two-hour demonstration in the village. They walked around holding signs that garnered looks from passers-by, but they were careful not to block pedestrian traffic.
The group has been protesting increased noise and new helicopter routes in front of the East Hampton Airport in Wainscott since August 2012.
