An accident in Springs early Thursday morning sent the driver to the hospital and caused a power outage for about 200 customers.
A sport utility vehicle struck a utility pole on Church Lane, near Springs Fireplace Road, at about 5:20 a.m. The pole, which had a transformer on it, came down and landed on the roof of the SUV.
Springs Fire Department Chief Ben Miller said a fire engine, the heavy rescue truck, and an ambulance responded to the scene. The driver was not trapped, and was transported to Southampton Hospital with non-life threatening injuries, he said.
"The pole was knocked down killing power in the area," Miller said.
East Hampton Town police were still on scene, while the Long Island Power Authority worked at about 8 a.m.
After the accident, LIPA Power Outages map said that nearly 200 people were without power in Springs. At 8:15 a.m., the map showed power was restored to the area.
