Update: East Meadow Convicted Murderer to be Sentenced Friday
Update: The sentencing of Herber Guzman of East Meadow, scheduled for Friday, Jan. 17, is expected to be adjourned, according to a spokesperson from the Nassau County District Attorney's office. No further information is available at this time.

Original: A convicted murderer from East Meadow will be sentenced Friday, according to the Nassau County District Attorney's office.

Judge William Donnino was forced to delay the sentencing of  Herber Guzman in December after he asked for a new lawyer.

After one day of deliberation, a jury convicted Guzman of second-degree murder after he shot Stanley Cater of Hempstead in the abdomen in April 2012. Guzman did not know Cater, according to the DA's office.

The East Meadow father of three has maintained his innocence, according to a  Newsday report. He faces 25 years to life in prison.
