After surrounding whether or not the county would move forward with two proposed dog runs in , the plan has been given the go-ahead.

Legis. Norma Gonsalves, R-East Meadow, told Patch that she recently spoke to Bob Dwyer from Nassau County's Department of Parks and Recreation, and he told her that they're looking to complete the project as soon as possible.

The gate to the dog run will be located at the corner of Salisbury Park Drive and Stewart Avenue, with the main part of the new facility running along Salisbury Park Drive.

One of the dog runs will be for bigger dogs, while the other will be for pooches of the more petite variety. Gonsalves said that she'd like to see the dog runs completed by June.

"Right now they’re looking for additional funding because Pet Safe is going to fund some of the project, and I also believe the county is looking into how they can do the fencing," Gonsalves said. "It’s a go. It’s not something that’s on the back burner. The dog lovers are happy about that, and we’re going to do everything we can to expedite its arrival."

The idea was at civic meetings last spring, leaving many residents excited about the proposition of a place for local canine companions to play. Legis. Gonsalves confirmed the in August of 2011.
