LIRR Commuter Issues to Be Discussed at Nearby Forum

Local train commuters will have the opportunity Thursday evening to air transportation concerns and questions with representatives from the Long Island Rail Road (LIRR) at a forum in Wantagh.

Nassau County Legis. Dave Denenberg, D-Merrick, is hosting Thursday’s event slated to begin at 7:30 p.m. at the Wantagh Public Library on 3285 Park Ave. The LIRR officials will address concerns related to train stations in Seaford, Wantagh, Bellmore, Merrick and Freeport.

The LIRR is a state authority but Denenberg said he likes to organize meeting that address issues faced by train commuters in his 19th district, which includes Bellmore, North Bellmore, Merrick and parts of Freeport, North Merrick and Wantagh.

At a forum held last year with LIRR personnel at the Wantagh Public Library, some of the issues raised included problems with escalators, lack of parking and general maintenance concerns.
