Town of Hempstead Officials Sworn In for New Terms
Hempstead Town Supervisor Kate Murray and Town Clerk Nasrin Ahmad was administered the oath of office at the Town of Hempstead Induction of Officials Ceremony held at the Nathan L. H. Bennett Pavilion in Hempstead on Jan. 2.

In 1998, Murray was the first woman elected to represent the 19th District in the State Assembly. She also was the first woman to be elected Town Clerk in 2001. Lastly, in 2003, she was the first woman to be elected Town Supervisor.

"The Murray administration has also earned a reputation for excellent fiscal management," TOH officials said in a release "In fact, she has produced a 2014 budget that reduces town taxes, her third consecutive tax-cut budget."

Ahmad is a professional with 15 years of experience in town government.

"Town Clerk Ahmad has run a cost-effective and efficient operation in the town clerk’s office," TOH officials said in a release. "She is promoting vitally important programs like the life-saving Child Safety I.D. Program. Ms. Ahmad has been committed to helping Sandy victims, implementing a program that is replacing storm-damaged birth, marriage and other records at no cost."
