Farmingdale State College Among Safest College Campuses in America: Report

Farmingdale State College was recently ranked among of the safest college campuses in the United States for 2016.

The top 25 colleges were ranked by RentCollegePads.com. Farmingdale was listed as number 23 on the list.

"Crime on school grounds isn’t a common occurrence, with only three crimes committed on average per year," the blog post reads. "The school offers 24-hour patrols, emergency telephones, and controlled building access to keep crime at a minimum."

The local college is the oldest public University on Long Island. Over 8,000 students attend the 380-acre campus located on Broadhollow Road.

The website ranked Brigham Young University in Idaho as the number one safest college campus.

The rankings were determined by looking data and seeing which campuses had the least amount of on-campus crime per capita.

Farmingdale had a crime index of 525:1.
