Officers were investigating a house party that occurred early Sunday where shots were fired and a man was arrested.

UPDATE: Man Shot in Inwood During Police Probe

Officers investigating a shooting that occurred early Sunday in Inwood shot a man after a physical altercation, according to police.

At 2:09 p.m., officers and detectives located a man and woman on Mott Avenue and West End Avenue who were believed to be a house party at 2:20 a.m. where shots were fired, police said. When the officers approached them, “a physical altercation took place,” according to police.

During the altercation, the male subject was shot and transported to the hospital for treatment. The female subject was not injured and released from scene.

The three members of the police department that were involved in the altercation were treated at local hospitals for undisclosed injuries and released.

Update: Feb. 27, 4:22 p.m. - Arrested in the above incident was George J. Towns, 27, of Valley Stream and of Copiague.

On Monday at 2:15 p.m., a judge performed a bedside arraignment in South Nassau Community Hospital and remanded Towns into the custody of the Nassau County Sheriff's Department, police said. A firearm was recovered at the scene.

Towns is charged with menacing a police officer and other charges that will be presented to the Grand Jury at a future date.

During the course of the probe, police had blocked off roads in Inwood, according to people near the scene.

The investigation is still ongoing.

Earlier in the day, officers had responded to a report of shots fired in the vicinity of 130 Henry St. According to police, the officers saw a large house party in the front of the location. After an investigation, police said that shots were fired and shell casings were recovered from the scene.

Police said that witnesses saw Dwight Stephenson, 21, of Far Rockaway, placing a handgun and rifle into his vehicle. Both firearms were recovered by police officers.

No injuries were reported.

Stephenson is being charged with two counts of criminal possession of a weapon in the second degree, first-degree reckless endangerment and possession of a dangerous weapon in the fourth degree.  He is scheduled to be arraigned on Monday in First District Court, Hempstead.
