LIRR Cancellations, Delays Expected for PM Rush

BREAKING: A third rail problem in one of the East River tunnels is affecting service.

All westbound Long Island Rail Road trains between Jamaica and Penn Station are currently cancelled due to a third rail problem in one of the East River tunnels, the LIRR said. Riders should expect cancellations and delays in both directions during the evening rush Thursday.

NYC Transit is honoring LIRR tickets on the E subway line at the Jamaica (Sutphin Blvd-Archer Ave), Kew Gardens (Union Tpke) and Forest Hills (71st Ave) stops. At Woodside, NYC Transit is cross-honoring LIRR tickets on the westbound 7 line (61st Ave). Customers can also take the LIRR to Atlantic Terminal and connect to the 2 or 3 subway lines for LIRR service to Penn Station.

In addition to the westbound cancellations, all service is suspended in both directions between Huntington and Port Jefferson while repairs to a broken rail are underway. Limited bus service is available. Customers are advised to use the Ronkonkoma Branch as an alternative.
