Garden City fire and police personnel responded to a car fire on Franklin Avenue at Ninth Street at approximately 2:30 p.m. Thursday.

Firefighters used a 10 lb dry chemical extinguisher to put the fire out and a 2.5 gallon water extinguisher to overhaul, according to a fire report.

The driver of the 2001 Mitsubishi sedan said she smelled something burning, like an "electrical odor." She confirmed no recent work had been done on the vehicle.

According to the fire report, the  passenger compartment was full of heavy black smoke and the driver's window was slightly open.

Firefighters discharged the dry chemical extinguisher into the passenger compartment through the driver's window and extinguished fire.

Fire damaged was confined to the center console and the center of the dashboard. Firefighters stood by until an authorized tow removed the vehicle from the scene.
