Local merchants are being urged to take part in the Nassau Council of Chambers of Commerce's newly announced veterans discount program, which will provide military veterans with a 10 to 20 percent discount on merchandise and/or services sold throughout Nassau.
The Council announced the program Thursday in front of Have You Heard?, a Bellmore business participating in the program. The Council is providing decals to participating businesses.
"The members of our chambers deeply appreciate the service provided by the
men and women of our military, and feel that this discount program is the least they can do to show their gratitude," said E. Christopher Murray, president of the Nassau Council.
There is no time limit on the program and Murray said he hopes merchants will keep it open indefinitely.
Garden City chamber members first heard of the new program Thursday. "We will try to enlist their support in this noble cause," said John Wilton, chair of the village's merchants committee.
Patch learned Friday that offers a discount to all active and former military veterans "everyday, always."
The Council anticipates more than 250 merchants will participate. "We anticipate this program being a great success for both the veterans and our merchant members," said Murray.
