Garden City Brothers Host Second Annual Blood Drive

Save A Life By Donating Blood On January 19

Garden City Brothers Host Second Annual Blood Drive
Brothers Jake and Bobby Menges are all too aware how vital blood donations are. When Bobby was just 5 years old he was diagnosed with neuroblastoma, a childhood cancer. During his treatment, he remembers how he relied on blood transfusions to stay healthy.

So, these Garden City high school students have made it their mission to raise awareness and increase blood donations by hosting their second annual blood drive on Saturday, January 19 in their driveway at 27 Hilton Avenue, Garden City from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

NY Blood Center will run the drive. Based on the success of their July blood drive, where they collected 75 pints, the boys are hoping to exceed that number and more importantly they would like to recruit 15 "first time" donors.

Typically, blood supply decreases during the winter months due to the holidays, increased illnesses and lack of time which is why the brothers decided to host a winter blood drive.

“We want to help as many people in our local hospitals as we can,” said Bobby Menges. “Blood donations save people’s lives every day. Your donation can truly save the life of a man, woman or child in need.”

Bobby, a talented musician, will also entertain donors by playing live music with his band.

To reserve a time slot for donation or for further information email jakebobbyblooddrive@yahoo.com. Donors must be at least 16 years of age.
