The $104,215,528 budget that the Board of Education unanimously adopted last month carries a projected tax levy increase of 3.54 percent, which does stay under tax cap limit imposed by New York State law.

The board reduced its spending on debt services by $61,419 and classroom furniture by $10,000. It also eliminated strength and conditioning programs in athletics, for a savings of $9,804. Through contract negotiations with the Garden City Teachers’ Association (GCTA), the district is also saving money in salaries - $569,296 for general education teachers and $110,704 for special education teachers.
