Although winter is far from over, this freeze/thaw/freeze cycle of winter weather could begin wreaking havoc on local roads. And you know what that means for drivers - potholes.
Marc Herbst, executive director of the Long Island Contractors’ Association, "ruinous thaw and freeze allows for a constant runoff of water into the smallest cracks in the street only to have it expand when the temperature drops below freezing."
“It is Mother Nature’s version of a jack hammer and we have many weeks to go before this cycle comes to an end,” he said.
To report a pothole, residents can call the Village Yard directly at 465-4031 or the Department of Public Works at 465-4003.
