Former Judge, Glen Cove Mayor Joseph Suozzi Dies at 95
Joseph Suozzi died Sunday night.

Former Glen Cove Mayor and two-term state Supreme Court justice Joseph A. Suozzi has died.
Suozzi, 95, died Sunday night of natural causes, according to Newsday.
Suozzi was born in Italy and immigrated to the United States in 1925. He attended school in Glen Cove and Oyster Bay, was a World War II veteran as well as a Fordham University and Harvard Law School graduate.

He was a husband and a father of five to Thomas R. Suozzi, who is running for congressman of New York’s third district, late Joseph M. Suozzi, Rosemary Mancini Lloyd, Dr. William Suozzi and Christopher Suozzi. He was also a grandfather of 14 and a great-grandfather of four.

Suozzi served as Mayor of Glen Cove from 1956 to 1960 and served a 14-year term as Justice of the Supreme Court of the State of New York. He was re-elected in 1974 for another term with bipartisan support. He was then appointed Associate Justice of the Appellate Division, Second Department in 1976.

In 1980, he went back to law as a senior partner in the law firm of Meyer, Suozzi, English & Klein, P.C. in Garden City. Meyer, Suozzi posted a biography summing up Suozzi’s accomplishments on their website.
Newsday reports that viewing services are set for Tuesday and Wednesday at the McLaughlin Kramer Megiel Funeral Home, located at 220 Glen St. in Glen Cove. A mass will be held Thursday at St. Patrick’s Roman Catholic Church, located at 235 Glen St. in Glen Cove.
