Glen Cove Boys & Girls Club November Youth of the Month

Joshua R. and Jessica B. have been named Glen Cove Boys & Girls Club Youth of the Month for November.

The Youth of the Month program recognizes the progress, improvements and accomplishments made by Club members and each month two outstanding youth are selected to receive this well-deserved and coveted title.

Junior Youth of the Month, Joshua R. is seven years old and in the second grade at Deasy Elementary School. He enjoys participating in many activities and playing with his friends. He likes many subjects in school including math. Joshua has been a member of the Club for one year and during this time has established a very special bond with Group Leader Jahrae O’Neill. Joshua looks up to and holds in high regard, so much so that he would like to be just like Jahrae when he grows up. When asked what he hopes to be when he grows up, Joshua beamed and said, “I want to be a Group Leader like Mr. Jahrae and work at the Club.”

Jessica B. is 15 years old and in the 10th grade at Glen Cove High School. She was first introduced to the Club at the age of nine when she spent a summer with her grandmother and participated in the Club’s Summer Program. She became reacquainted with the Club last year when she moved to Glen Cove and became a regular member of the Club. “I became a member of the Club to meet people and make friends. It has really become my second home and I feel really safe here,” said Jessica, who attends the Club every day. Jessica really enjoys global history and learning about different periods and eras. She is also an avid writer and likes photography. She plans on graduating from High School and pursing a college and post graduate education. Jessica, who excels in math and has outstanding managerial skills, may pursue a profession in the business world but she is not quite ruling out the medical industry as she finds the field of orthodontics intriguing as well.
