Glen Cove Boys & Girls Club October Youth of the Month

Youth of the Month Program recognizes members for their participation in programs and dedication to the Club.

Calogero, 10, is a fifth grader at Connolly Middle School. He is an avid football player who hopes to play in the sport professionally when he grows up. His favorite subjects are math and science and he would like to attend Stony Brook University but sports are his real passion. New to the Boys & Girls Club, Calogero joined the Club in August and so far his experience has surpassed any expectations he may have had. “This place is so awesome who wouldn’t want to come here,” said Calogero. “I come here every day and have already made a lot of friends. More people should know about the Club,” he added.

Doris, 14, is in the ninth grade at Glen Cove High School. Also a new member, Doris is already finding the Club to be very helpful with her English language skills. She is overcoming her shyness and has made many new friends during her two month tenure. Doris’ peers are assisting her with her language challenges and providing much needed support. “People here are very nice,” said Doris. She enjoys the sciences and would like to become a doctor when she grows up. “I want to become a doctor because I want to help others,” said Doris, who also likes to dance and draw.

All members can benefit from participation in this program, which promotes and celebrates service to Club, community and family; academic performance; moral character; life goals; and poise. Each month members are recognized within each program area as a Youth of the Month nominee. This Year-round program fosters young people’s character, personal growth and leadership qualities. Overall nominees are invited to attend our Annual Youth of the Month Banquet held in June.
