Glen Cove Snowfall Totals Over Half a Foot

National Weather Service snow totals for Long Island following snowstorm Hercules.

Glen Cove Snowfall Totals Over Half a Foot
Snowstorm Hercules dumped over half a foot of the white stuff on Glen Cove and the surrounding area, according to weather reports.

The National Weather Service's closest measuring point in Bayville reported 7 inches of snow on the ground with some higher drifts in the area as of Friday at 7:45 a.m.

According to Mike Silva, meteorologist at the National Weather Service Office in Upton, the storm held no surprises.

"This pretty much panned out exactly as we expected," he said. "We expected six to 10 inches of snow, with maybe a little bit higher out east. Some places managed to touch a foot."

Winds, however, weren't quite as fierce as initially predicted, but were starting to pick up Friday morning, with "very dangerous" temperatures across Long Island. With the wind chill factor, some areas felt as though it were minus 11 degrees, with a range of minus three to minus eight.

Temperatures are not expected to rise higher than the upper teens for most of Long Island Friday.

Two last bands of snow are slated to continue moving across Long Island Friday morning, one in Suffolk County and one over northern Nassau; another inch or two of snow will fall by 1 p.m., when the white stuff should disappear from the area completely.
