Glen Cove Votes

Poll workers report many displaced voters managing to cast ballots.

Glen Cove Votes

Despite Hurricane Sandy's wrath and a week without power, Glen Cove residents turned out in force Tuesday to cast their votes.

"It's been steady through most of the day, a bit slower at lunch," said one poll worker at Gribbin Elementary School who declined to give his name.

He said a significant number of voters who were displaced by the storm had been using affidavit ballots to cast their votes.

"People are coming from all over," he said, citing the gas shortage as one reason people were using different polling locations than usual.

The paper ballots didn't seem to throw many voters off.

"Simple," said one man as he left Finley Middle School.

However, reader Jeff weighed in on his experience there Tuesday morning: "Incredibly confusing and frustrating with little help from the people working behind the tables...seemed completely archaic considering that we're in the 21st century."

The polls remain open until 9 p.m. Tuesday.
