Library Board Approves Architect for Renovation Project

Kaeyer, Garment & Davidson Architects chosen to redesign main library.

Library Board Approves Architect for Renovation Project

The Great Neck Library Board recently approved the hiring of the architectural firm, Kaeyer, Garment & Davidson Architects from Mt. Kisco, N.Y., for the design work on the renovation of the main library.

The library overhaul is to be developed at a cost not to exceed $10 million. The work will be done within the existing footprint of the building to provide a new image of building while preserving its basic character.

After an agreement is reached with KG&D, building design will be discussed.

The scope of work is expected to include:

  • Gut renovation of interiors including Architectural and MEP systems.
  • Repair and upgrade of exterior envelope.
  • Site work to include parking, lighting and drainage.
  • Mezzanine to remain. Uses to be determined.
  • Construction phasing to allow a minimum basic presence at the site with limited services during construction.
  • Total closure, if required, to be limited to six months.
  • Open building to the landscape and views.
  • Enhance connection between the two levels.
  • Provide after‐hours access.
  • Incorporation of sustainable measures.
