Civic Association Questioning Dix Hills Water

Local organization hosting engineering consultant to address concerns.

Civic Association Questioning Dix Hills Water

The Dix Hills water is safe to drink, town officials say, but required chlorination after a coliform bacteria scare in December, has some residents feeling like they are drinking a swimming pool, and concerns have surfaced.

How long will the chlorination last? Will a sink or home filter take out the chlorine? Dennis Kelleher, the engineering consultant to the Dix Hills Water District will be answering those and other questions at the Dix Hills branch of the Half Hollow Hills Community Library on Thursday, May 17 at 7:30 p.m. during the House Beautiful Dix Hills Civic Association's annual meeting.

"Too many events in our community have occurred on short-notice lately," Joel Baden, association co-president, wrote in an email. He pointed to construction closings at the Northern State Parkway, street closings due to school and charity events and said the town was "ill prepared" to notify residents during the Dix Hills water alert.

Neighbors who wish to be put on the listserv should email alerts@HouseBeautiful.org.
