Firefighters Extinguish Car Fire On Northern State Parkway

BREAKING: The blaze occurred on Wednesday evening.

Melville firefighters worked to extinguish a car fire that broke out on the Northern State Parkway on Wednesday evening.

According to fire officials, the Volkswagen caught fire in the eastbound lanes between Exits 40 and 41, near Route 110 and Wolf Hill Road in Melville, at around 6:55 p.m.

Firefighters were able to extinguish the blaze with an engine and a heavy rescue truck.

The driver suffered minor cuts but declined medical assistance

All units were under the direction of Assistant Chiefs David Kaplan and Bill Schmitt.
