A car burst into flames Sunday at approximately 4:30 p.m. in Melville when a barbecue and propane tank fell out of a truck and collided with the oncoming vehicle.

The tank landed around Exit 49 on the Long Island Expressway near Broad Hollow Road and was hit by a Ford Marques that was traveling closely behind it.

According to officials at the scene, the tank was lodged into the vehicle's grill and caught fire.

The driver of the car pulled over to the side of the road and escaped with minor injuries, officials said.

The Melville Fire Department responded to the scene and put out the flames.
