The Best of Chicago Comes to DHPAC

Cover band Beginnings gives Dix Hills residents a tribute to the band Chicago.

In 1967, a politically charged and musically experimental band was formed in the windy city – a band that over the past four decades has become one of the longest running and most successful rock and roll bands in American music history. That band is Chicago – and Beginnings is the premiere tribute to their music – music that has come to define generations.

Beginnings performed for a full house at the Dix Hills Performing Arts Center, playing song compositions by Chicago along with a number of notorious holiday favorites. The show, which sold out, was filled with excited and devoted fans of both bands.

Beginnings, which got their start back in 2003, is comprised of eight talented musicians, put on a stellar performance, jamming on guitars, drums, keyboards and a variety of other unique instruments, all of which delivering an electrifying and entertaining production.

Band members Mason Swearingen, Phil Antonucci, Adam Colombo, and Marty Safran collectively weaved their vocals together to incorporate the authentic range and nature of the band Chicago while Ed Leone accompanied them on the trombone.

"My mom is a huge Chicago fan, so I know a bunch of their songs. This band did a great job performing covers of such a well-known and classic band," explained Derek Henig, a West Islip resident who came out for the show.

Saxophone players Rob Cutts and Adam Seely also showcased their abilities during several solo performances throughout the show.

One audience member, Martha A., said, "I had never heard of Beginnings but wow, they were amazing!" The undeniable rhythm and sync of the band members allowed the Chicago covers to truly come to life, making it hard for any audience member to sit still in their seat. "I honestly had no idea that I was in for such an amazing show tonight. I couldn't be happier we decided to come out," added Martha, a Dix Hills local.
