A 25-year-old West Harrison man was killed in an early morning slashing in New York City Sunday.

Michael Jones coached youth soccer for The New York Red Bulls, who confirmed the killing.

Jones was attacked and killed near Union Square around 4:30 a.m., according to the NYPD. The West Harrison man was "chopped multiple times" and had his ear cut off, according to police and published reports by The Daily News.

Jones was declared dead at Bellevue Hospital after he was found on the sidewalk on West 14th Street just off Fifth and Sixth avenues.

Police have released a video of the slashing suspect. The film shows a man with dark hair and a ponytail, dressed in black pants and a black jacket, walking down a Greenwich Village sidewalk.

Police said they believe Jones may have been walking with the man who attacked him.

No one has yet been arrested in connection with the incident.

The Red Bulls said Jones coached children ages 7 to 14 as a prelude to entering the team’s soccer academy, and sounded off on the tragedy.

“We are aware of this tragedy and on behalf of the entire organization, want to send our most heartfelt condolences to Michael’s family, friends and loved ones,” the team statement said. “He was a tremendous individual, a fantastic coach who loved soccer and a terrific friend for many of us.”
