East Woods Appoints Next Head of School

The Board of Trustees of East Woods School has appointed Matthew Bradley as the next Head of East Woods School, effective July 1, 2013.  The board voted enthusiastically and unanimously for Mr. Bradley’s appointment, and the parents, faculty and entire school community are energized by and excited about the news.  The current Headmaster of East Woods, Dr. Nathaniel Peirce, had announced earlier this year his intention to retire at the conclusion of this academic year, after 11 years at East Woods.

In accepting this position, Matt commented:  "I am deeply honored to be named the next Head of East Woods School, and look forward to leading this exceptional learning community.  East Wood's mission to foster strength of character along with academic excellence first attracted me to the position, and during my visits to the beautiful campus I gained great appreciation for the teachers, administrators, staff, parents, and board members whose dedication and devotion bring this mission to life every day.  I was particularly impressed by the confident and articulate students I met who exemplify all that East Woods stands for.  My wife Melinda and I are especially pleased that our family will be joining the East Woods School community, and are eager to engage fully in the life of the school."

Matt Bradley is currently Head of School at West Chester Friends School in West Chester, Pennsylvania.  Now in his twelfth year as Head of School, Matt has been actively involved in every aspect of the life of the 176 year old school including program development, marketing and admissions, fund raising, budget oversight, facility improvements, and secondary school placement.  Matt began his career in elementary and middle school education at Friends Academy in Locust Valley, NY.  He earned his B.A. from the University of Notre Dame and a Masters of Arts in Education and Teaching from Teachers College, Columbia University.

The school remains truly grateful for the exceptional leadership of Dr. Nathaniel Peirce over the last ten years.  He has transformed the East Woods campus and markedly improved the educational experience provided to the students.  The East Woods School community is now looking forward to welcoming Matt, Melinda and their children to campus, and to working with Matt to continue the mission of East Woods.

East Woods School is an independent, co-educational Pre-Nursery through Eighth Grade school, including a full-day Kindergarten program.  East Woods School is located on 46-acres in Oyster Bay, NY.
