Update: Hit-and-Run Victim Identified as Immigrant

A man who was fatally injured in a hit-and-run accident on Sept. 3 has been identified as a recent immigrant from Honduras.

Suffolk Police Second Squad detectives said the victim was Luis Dagoberto Flores Hernandez, 27.

But they have been unable to find any relatives to claim his body.

The accident occurred Sept. 3 in front of the 7-Eleven store at Thorney Avenue and East Jericho Turnpike in Huntington Station. Police said the victim was dragged about 500 feet before being dislodged from the vehicle in front of the Walt Whitman Motor Lodge. The driver of the vehicle fled the scene. Police reported Sept.5 that the man had died.

Update: The Suffolk County Medical Examiner's Office confirmed Tuesday that it has the victim's body and is trying to find someone who can  confirm the identification through a visual inspection.

Police are encouraging anyone who may have witnessed the crash to call 631-854-8252 or 1-800-220-TIPS with information. All calls will be kept confidential, according to police.
