Illegal Gambling Club Discovered in Huntington Station Deli: Police

Officers confiscated dice tables, dice, joker poker machines, cash and drugs, police say.

The manager of a Huntington Station deli was arrested Friday night after police say he was running an illegal gambling club at his business.

Police went to Chiquito Deli, located at 1962 New York Ave., to conduct a State Liquor Authority inspection at 10:15 p.m. to find a gambling club in the basement with about 30 people inside, police say.

According to authorities, officers confiscated dice tables, dice, joker poker machines, cash and drugs.

The deli’s manager Juan Antonio Susana Corona, 45, of Huntington Station, was subsequently arrested and charged with second-degree criminal nuisance, second-degree promoting gambling and possession of a gambling device.

He was also charged under the Alcohol Beverage Control Law with consumption on a licensed premise, gambling and the sale of alcohol without the appropriate license. All charges are misdemeanors.

The Huntington Town Code Enforcement cited Corona for Fire Code violations and Improper Use under the Town Building Code. He will be arraigned March 23.

Multiple people inside the deli were also charged with open alcohol under Huntington Town Code.

The SLA inspection at the deli was in conjunction with Suffolk County Police Second Precinct Crime Section and the Huntington Town Code Enforcement in response to community complaints.
