Nichols Withdraws From Town Race

Republican candidate withdraws name from consideration of Libertarian Party for Huntington Town Board race.

Nichols Withdraws From Town Race

Republican Town Board candidate Peter Nichols has withdrawn his name from consideration of the Libertarian Party — and less than three months from the election, it remains unclear exactly who is in and who is out of the race.

"I have requested that the Suffolk County Libertarian Party withdraw my name from consideration for a town board seat due to certain developments that have occurred during the current petitioning process," said Nichols.

According to Nichols, after being endorsed by the Libertarian Party, he and GOP candidate Vivienne Wong were in the process of obtaining 1500 petition signatures needed for confirmation — but today's announcement has changed all that.

"Now that I decided to withdraw, the Libertarian Party is not endorsing anyone," said Nichols Monday.

Wong said last week she will run on the Libertarian ticket, but that information could not be verified by Party officials.

Also last week, Independent candidate Gene Cook was  to run on the Republican ticket by a state Supreme Court ruling.

With Cook and Nichols apparently out, the Huntington Town Board race currently consists of Republican Herb Morrow, and current Town Board members Susan Berland and Glenda Jackson, both Democrats.

Unconfirmed reports have Cook running on the Independent ticket. Cook has not returned a message sent to him last week regarding his status.
