The Pop Art movement diffused to the United States from Great Britain in the late 1950s, an early remnant of the "British Invasion" era in pop culture.  The phenomenon will be brought back to the spotlight this month, as paintings by artist go on display.

The y will host the artist's reception on Saturday   at the Alfred Van Loen Gallery to commemorate the opening of "Memories Fulfilled," featuring 20 Pop Art paintings, all by Laird.

Laird's approach to painting is shown through the use of the grid, which blends artistic elements and neon colors into unique creations, often nostalgic, evoking happy and simple times.

SPHL Curator Deborah Katz is excited for the exhibit's arrival.

"It's a free event for the public, and it's kind of like a small party," said Katz, who is planning on a future exhibition of her own work.  "Each exhibit's purpose is to inspire and entertain, and it's in a beautiful setting.  People can buy original paintings at the exhibit, and get a chance to meet the artist, which is great."

The SPHL hosts exhibits each month, which feature high quality and talented work.  Katz says the library is committed to bringing professional, diverse, and exciting artwork on Long Island to the gallery.

The paintings will remain on display until the exhibit's close on Feb. 9,  and the gallery will always be open for viewing during library hours, Monday through Friday 9 a.m. until 9 p.m. (Wednesday opens at 10 a.m.), Saturday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Sunday 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.
