Driver Crashes Into Pole After Apparent Medical Episode: FD
The driver of an Islip Town Public Safety vehicle hit the pole in front of a local market, officials say.
ISLIP, NY - One person was hospitalized after crashing into a pole in front of an Islip market on Tuesday afternoon, according to the Islip Fire Department.
The crash was reported on Islip Avenue (RT-111) in front of the Best Market at about 1:14 p.m.
Arriving firefighters discovered an Islip Town Public Safety vehicle that struck a telephone pole and then the brick base to the Best Market Sign.

According to the department, it is believed the driver suffered a possible medical emergency leading to the crash.

The driver was transported to Southside Hospital in Bay Shore for treatment of apparent non-life-threatening injuries.
PSEG was notified to respond as one of their poles was snapped in half by the crash.
