Girls Volleyball: Setting Up To Take the Championship

The Lady Kingsmen hit the road tomorrow and ready themselves for the NYS Championship.

Girls Volleyball: Setting Up To Take the Championship

In an escort befitting a president, the Lady Kingsmen take to the road Friday morning, in an escort led by the Kings Park Fire Department. Yep, they are that hot.

The Kings Park girls volleyball team recently made history when they . It was a five game thriller, coming down to the wire, but the girls killed it.

They will now head to Glen Falls to compete in the state tournament on Saturday, where they will look to make history once again.

“We are taking a bus with Smithtown East who just won the state AA championship,” said coach Elizabeth Manly.

Manly, who has been coaching for six years in Kings Park, two of them at the varsity level, said that this season is a dream come true.

“It’s the attitude of these girls, a team attitude. There is no I or me in it,” she said. “I don’t have to motivate them. They love what they do.”

The team has been with Manly since the 7th grade where Manly also coaches the middle school girls. This season they will overlap for the first time. Typically the varsity season wraps up before the middle school season begins.

As good as the team is, they are also somewhat inexperienced, which Manly says is one of the challenges she sees for them.

“We didn’t even make the playoffs last year,” she said. “We never hang our heads. We never give up. We believe it no matter how far we are down.”

The team will face the best in the state this weekend, but Manly says they are ready.

“It is always a great day when we are practicing volleyball on November 16,” she said.
