Alleged Mam'k Murderer Will Not Be Present In Court

A Mamaroneck mother accused of murder will not be present during her court hearing tomorrow morning.

Alleged Mam'k Murderer Will Not Be Present In Court

Manuela Morgado, the 46-year-old woman accused of killing her 4-year-old son, Jason “Jake” Reish, will not appear in court this Thursday as previously scheduled, said Mamaroneck police.

Her appearance remains on the Village of Mamaroneck court calendar for tomorrow at 9:30 a.m., said a court clerk.  Morgado’s attorney will appear, presumably on her behalf.

Authorities believe that Morgado attempted to kill herself as well as her son on Oct. 1, when they discovered her in a semi-conscious state holding her son’s lifeless body.

Morgado appeared in court last Thursday, Oct. 4 in the midst of a media firestorm, on a charge of second degree murder, a felony. She remained silent except for a moment when she broke down emotionally and sobbed as her former attorney comforted her.

The boy's father, Timothy Reish, was no longer involved with Morgado, and living in Briarcliff Manor with Erin Taylor Reish, whom he married in 1996. Timothy has two other children in the Briarcliff school district, and works as an orthopedic surgeon.

Both Timothy and Erin requested an order of protection from the court against Morgado, who they claim has sent them threatening letters.

Jason’s funeral was held Friday, Oct. 5 at a Briarcliff Manor church.
