Students For Senegal Begins Preparations for Annual Gala

Students For Senegal Begins Preparations for Annual Gala
Students for Senegal is a nonprofit, student-run and operated organization, which is based in Mamaroneck and has several branches in neighboring communities. It aims to improve the lives and educational opportunities of children in the small village of Lambaye, in Senegal. This year, Students for Senegal has teamed up with BKSK Architects to fulfill the organization's longtime dream of building a new fully functional and modern library in the village, and construction plans are currently being evaluated. As a nonprofit organization, Students for Senegal relies chiefly on the hard work and dedication of students at Mamaroneck High School, but could not function as efficiently without support from the community. Each year, Students for Senegal holds numerous fundraising events, such as the Soccer Tournament, Soccer Drive, Smiles for Senegal, Book Drives and many more. These, along with continued and much appreciated outside assistance, help the organization grow and fulfill its objectives. The most significant fundraising event of the year, the annual Gala, is always a central component of the club’s activities. Usually held in early to mid-April, it is a time where members of the community come and learn more about the organization, participate in Senegalese culturally based activities, and enjoy a night of entertainment. Last year, Students for Senegal raised over $30,000 from the Gala, which allowed the organization to follow through and complete its objectives. As with every year, the support of our local community is a central part of the Gala’s success. Members of the community can support the Gala by buying tickets and attending the event, donating prizes to the various raffles and auctions, or simply donating money.
