The LIRR is again running reduced service for Thursday night’s commute as a result of continuing repair work by Amtrak in the East River Tunnel, but assures riders that service will return to normal Friday morning, according to a statement on the LIRR website.

The repair work is related to Sunday's in that tunnel, which has caused peak service disruptions on all lines – including Babylon, which runs through Lindenhurst – since Monday morning.

Thursday’s reduce PM service is as follows:

  • Cancellation of 20 eastbound evening rush trains.
  • All eastbound evening rush Far Rockaway trains will depart from Atlantic Terminal.
  • Westbound train service to Penn Station terminates at Jamaica, and on Port Washington Branch it terminates at Woodside at approximately 4:30 p.m.
  • Customers advised to use New York City E and Number 7 line service as alternates.

Specifically, the Babylon branch service changes are as follows:

  • The 4:04 p.m. train from Penn, due at Babylon at 5:05 p.m., was canceled. Customers were accommodated by the 4:12 p.m. train from Penn to Massapequa Park, which was extended to Babylon.
  • The 4:34 p.m. train from Penn, due at Babylon at 5:39 p.m., is canceled. Customers will be accommodated by the 4:37 p.m. train from Penn, due at Babylon at 5:52 p.m., which will make all combined stops.
  • The 4:52 p.m. train from New York, due at Babylon at 5:55 p.m., is canceled. Customers will be accommodated by the 5:03 p.m. train from New York to Wantagh, which will be extended to Babylon.
  • The 6:33 p.m. from Penn, due at Babylon at 7:35 p.m., is canceled. Customers will be accommodated by the 6:36 p.m. to Wantagh, which will be extended to Babylon.

In addition, these trains on the Babylon branch will also be affected:

  • The 5:19 p.m. train from New York, due at Wantagh at 6:06 p.m., is canceled. Customers will be accommodated by the 5:24 p.m. train from New York to Freeport, which will be extended to Wantagh.
  • The 5:40 p.m. train from New York, due at Seaford at 6:30 p.m., is canceled. Customers will be accommodated by the 5:47 p.m. from New York to Freeport, which will be extended to Seaford.
  • The 6:05 p.m. from Penn, due at Wantagh at 6:51 p.m., is canceled. Customers will be accommodated by the 6:10 p.m. to Freeport, which will be extended to Wantagh.

Customers should continue to check on service before heading to train stations, said railroad officials, by monitoring the MTA website.
