Woman Dies In Apparent Drowning In Great South Bay

The 58-year-old was found unresponsive in the water Monday afternoon.

LINDENHURST, NY — A woman drowned in Lindenhurst on Monday afternoon, according to Suffolk police.

Officers responded to Great South Bay off of Venetian Boulevard at 1:50 p.m. after a 911 caller reported someone floating in the water. Vita LaValle, 58, of North Babylon, was found unresponsive and pulled from the water by a good Samaritan on a boat.

LaValle was pronounced dead at the scene by a physician assistant from the Office of the Suffolk County Medical Examiner.
