Hofstra Joins Long Beach Hurricane Relief Efforts
Hofstra is taking additional steps to assist the Long Beach community along the road to recovery in the wake of Hurricane Sandy last week.

The university’s athletics department announced Thursday that a free ticket to the men’s basketball home opener on Nov. 16 will be given to anyone who donates supplies and monetary donations for the relief efforts in the hurricane-ravaged city.

Hofstra lists the following supplies as those that are most in need:  
  • Packed underwear
  • Flashlights
  • Bleach
  • Mops
  • Shampoos
  • Diapers of all sizes
  • Tooth brushes and toothpaste
  • Batteries, D, C, AA
  • Toilet Paper
  • Baby wipes
  • Large garbage bags/ contractor bags
  • Bottle water
  • Canned goods
  • Baby food
  • Cleaning supplies
  • Work gloves
  • Power cords
  • Warm hats/gloves
  • Socks
  • Blankets
  • Toiletries
The Pride will face South Dakota State at the Mack Sports Complex on the college campus and tipoff is at 7 p.m. Prior to the game, Capital One Bank will sponsor the second annual Fan Fest that will feature inflatables, a live band, free snacks, games and raffles.

The ticket booth at the sports complex will accept donations for supplies starting Nov. 12. The booth is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday to Friday.

Hofstra has opened up its indoor facility to the Long Beach High School football team prior to the team’s first-round playoff game at Carey in Franklin Square on Saturday.
